Demystifying Jyotish as we head into Fall of 2020

The Devi is Waiting for You (drawing by jayant kalawar 2018)

By Jayant Kalawar[1], October 20, 2020

Most of us may likely have a sense of something weird going on this second half of October 2020, as Sun beams begin reaching the Earth from the Libra zone between mid October and mid November every year. This is the time of the year when the Sun is the farthest away from the Earth (as it revolves on an elliptical path). And this year it is also simultaneously getting closer to a gravitational energy disturbance being formed in the Scorpio zone, which it will enter in mid-November, after it crosses Libra (all this is per sidereal Jyotish almanac, which matches with what NASA observes in the sky. The western almanac does not match with the sidereal almanac). Many of us have begun to feel the first winds from that storm and hence the sense of weirdness. Get in touch with this weirdness and breathe it out. The peak of this gravitational disturbance will be when Sun beams have to come thru the eye of this disturbance – which will be between December 3rd and 14th, 2020. That will be the peak of the storm. The gravitational disturbance starts abating and planetary skies clearing in early Feb 2021. Then we may be taking stock of all that happened during the planetary storm. Picking up the pieces may take us up to two months – to mid-April 2021.

This is my first (of what I hope will be many such) short post in the category of demystifying Jyotish. So you begin to get a sense that we are indeed the children of the Earth, Sun and Moon. The complexity of their interactions gives rise to waves in gravitational fields. We are always floating in those gravitational fields. We see the impact of the Moon in the tides, it moves the mighty ocean so!! Wow!! We see the impact of the Sun in the seasons!! And Earth gives us day and night as it circumambulates the Sun every day (remember how we mimic that at the end of the puja – the circumambulation is a reminder. Every step of the puja is a reminder of how integrated we are in cosmic cycles). For humans the Earth’s rotation in the presence of the mighty Sun gives us metabolic and circadian cycles. The Sun-Moon interactions gives us the hormonal cycles. Jyotish is the method of mapping of these mighty gravitational waves caused by planetary interactions (and I have not even brought in Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn in this first post). Jyotish observes and is able to accurately predict timing of regular planetary storms arising in the gravitational fields and due to interactions between Earth, Sun and Moon  -and calls them Rahu and Ketu. It takes about 6 weeks for the disturbance to form and another 6 weeks for it to dissipate. Somewhere in between those 12 weeks we get to see physical sign of this disturbance in the form of solar and lunar eclipses. But physical eclipses are only one small signal that our sense organs can pick up. Just as we can only see the tides moving in and out. But we do not actually sense the tremendous energy of the gravitational waves that are making the mighty ocean dance to their tune.

This time the 12 week storm in the gravitational field (described as stationary phase of nodal axis of Rahu-Ketu per Systems Approach to Vedic Astrology[2]) begins in about the first week of November 2020 and goes on to about the first week of February 2021, with peak in the first two weeks of December 2020. This time the Rahu-Ketu planetary storm may likely be somewhat more impactful than the usual.

Take care and be well.

Sigh of Relief: Venus Transited into Aquarius February 6th 2018

You may have read about Astro Weather happening between January 27th and February 10th.

The first part of the weather happened between January 27th and 31st 2018: when Venus’s connection to Earth went through the nodal agitation zone, which I explained in the linked article.

Many of you may have experienced this disturbance in your personal lives during the last week of January 2018. Spouses and partners getting very upset. Not being able to enjoy aesthetics or luxuries.  Generally a time when expression of romance seems to be behind the clouds.

In the news in late January 2018, FLOTUS was shown to be unhappy with POTUS. Did not show up in Davos. Travelled to SOTU address separately and apparently did not applaud as heartily as others. That may be a more public indication of Venus being disturbed. Privately, many of us, especially the sensitive among us, would have likely experienced some sort of Venus related disturbance in that week.

Today (February 6th), Venus moved into Aquarius, far away from the disturbed zone. Most of us may expect relatively better vibes in your spousal / partner interactions (except for Cancer, Virgo and Pisces ascendants, for whom Venus energy may give some low level stress over next 3 weeks, but easily manageable).

Between February 1st and February 5th, Earth’s connection with the Sun went through the nodal agitation zone. Leadership / authority roles may likely be challenged more than usual. Many of us play leadership / authority roles in some areas of life. Parents, for example, have this role when it comes to children. Many of us find ourselves being supervisors of a team, if not big bosses, at work. Expect to get surprising push backs in those authoritative / leadership roles that you take on in your lives, however limited the roles may be.

Mecury-Earth connection will go through the nodal agitation zone between February 7th and 10th. In general, expect misunderstandings due to miscommunications and re-check your spreadsheet work during these four days. Those of you blessed with having Gemini, Leo and Aquarius ascendants may see passing but sudden disturbance in home / house matters (Gemini), career /professional matters (Leo) and general obstructions in whatever they are attempting to achieve (Aquarius).

Severe Astro Weather Alert January 27th to February 10th 2018

Eclipses occur when Earth, Sun and Moon Line Up On the Line of Nodes

In my 2018 annual Astro forecast I had indicated likelihood of two turbulent periods in 2018. Well, the first one (mid-January to mid-March) is here. And within that turbulence we may likely see a peak disturbance, which is the subject of this post. Each of us may experience this disturbance differently.

For approximately two weeks from January 27th to February 10th, 2018, the gravitational force fields connecting the Earth to Venus, Sun and Mercury will pass through a zone of turbulence. The turbulence zone is being created by the Moon’s orbit passing through the Earth-Sun gravitational force field.

One of the outcomes of such orbital intersections are eclipses which can be seen by the naked eye. In this case, a lunar eclipse on January 31st and solar eclipse on February 15th. However, it is not the physical outcome of the eclipses that impacts us: it is the gravitational field disturbance which arises due to the orbital intersections that gives rise to the impacts discussed and indicated here.

Such disturbed gravitational force field zones begin to be created approximately 6 weeks prior to the first of two eclipses (the solar and lunar eclipses usually happen in rapid succession, not necessarily in the same sequence, within two weeks. These sets of eclipses generally happen twice a year). The turbulence in the Sun-Earth gravitational field usually lasts 6 weeks after the second eclipse.

Turbulence in this field, which channels differently through each of us, and the Earth in general, may become apparent in different areas of our lives. The disturbance is further stirred and nuanced when the gravitational fields of other planets pass through the turbulence generated by the Moon’s orbit through the Sun-Earth force field.

The ascendant signs, that I am using to provide impact indications in this post, are based on the Systems Approach to Vedic Astrology framework. This framework uses sidereal computations to map the skies (which is the same as how NASA maps the skies), not the tropical zodiac (used by Western Astrologers, which does not take Earth’s precession into account).

If you do not have your Vedic astrology birth chart, please use the information on our contact information page. Connect with us via email with birth details (birth time, date, place). We will get back to you with your ascendant sign and ascendant degree in your birth chart.

Level of Impact of disturbance by Ascendant Sign

The January 27th to February 10th 2018 disturbance is likely to impact ascendant signs as follows:

Gemini, Leo, Aquarius: Relatively higher impact.

Virgo, Capricorn, Pisces, Libra, Aries, Taurus, Scorpio: Relatively moderate impact.

Sagittarius and Cancer: Relatively Low Impact.

Impact may be amplified on those with their birth chart ascendant degrees between 19 and 21, within each of the impact ranges identified above.

Having an accurate Vedic astrology ascendant degree is likely to help you understand your alert / readiness requirement level in this context.

Impact Assessment on Each Ascendant Sign (January 27th – February 10th 2018)

Aries: Some moderate impact may be seen in children, health and romance and partner / spouse relationship areas.

Taurus: Some moderate impact may be seen in home, assets, children, romance, and health areas.

Gemini: A relatively higher impact may be seen in areas of new initiatives, younger siblings / team members, home and asset issues and children and romance.

Cancer: Relatively low impact likely on general sense of well-being, younger siblings / team members, home and asset issues.

Leo: Relatively higher impact likely on health, career, younger siblings / team member issues.

Virgo: Some moderate impact likely on social status, health and general sense of well-being.

Libra: Some moderate impact may be experienced in income from investments / pensions, social status and health.

Scorpio: Some moderate impact may be experienced in career, passive income and relationship with spouse.

Sagittarius: Some low level impact likely on being less travel, good fortune, career and passive income.

Capricorn: Moderate impact may be experienced in health, travel, good fortune and career areas.

Aquarius: Relatively higher impact may be experienced in health, travel, good fortune and relationship with spouse / partner.

Pisces: A moderate level of impact may be seen in health and relationship with spouse / partner.

How to make use of and manage these potential impact indications

  1. The impact indications are to be seen as possibilities (with a high, moderate or low chances of being realized), not certainties.
  2. The alert is to help you pay attention to specific indicated areas and be a little more prepared.
  3. Slowing down, keeping low profile, being focused and attentive helps.
